Mapping for those without GPS.

Johannesburg - Energy giant Total (Pty) Ltd this week announced the launch of a free mapping tool Total Navigator to aid South African motorists.
The interactive map software, blueprinting the entire network of South African roads and streets in all towns, cities and the country throughout nine provinces can be accessed online at no cost.
It has three distinct features that will assist local motorists - a navigation planner, a map search for points of interest, and a Total service station finder. The Total Navigator Route Finder will plot the fastest routes, generating step-by-step instructions and additional data such as distances that will be covered, when motorists specify departure and destination points online. Users will be able to download, e-mail or print their travelling itinerary.
For motorists travelling on holiday or business, the Total Navigator Points of Interest Map will be a guiding light offering the location of shops, restaurants and dining, and ATM’s.
Motorists without GPS enabled devices
The map views can be switched between a graphical interface or a real-time satellite imaging topographic view screen, and further more comes with a scalability function that allows users to magnify or decrease different view levels.
“We identified a gap in the market to assist motorists who do not have GPS enabled devices or phones. This opportunity, along with our mantra that aims to add value to motorists and customers, led to the development of Total Navigator,” says Reina Cullinan, Total’s corporate marketing manager.
“The product will cater to a broad range of users and their very unique requirements - from a once-off route plan when motorists in cities have to venture into unfamiliar territory, to a measuring tool for business travellers who have to keep tabs of their mileage, to a navigational aid for holidaymakers exploring this country.
“This product is a bold extension of our brand on the digital scene, and will add value to Total dealers holders across the country.”
